Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about restoring your pavers!
There are three main reasons to seal your pavers. First the sealing process saturates the sand joints and binds the joint sand together which inhibits seed germination and weed growth. Second, sealing pavers provides a U.V. protective coat to the surface which prevents fading. Third, it much easier to remove stains from pavers that have been sealed. In addition, depending upon the type of sealer used, the original color and beauty of pavers can be restored by the sealing process.
Typically pavers should be re-sanded and sealed once every 3-5 years depending upon traffic and exposure to the elements.
Not necessarily. Pavers can be sealed with a natural look sealer or a wet look sealer.
Usually the process of surface cleaning, re-sanding, and sealing takes one whole day. For very large projects or projects with extensive repairs or stones needing to be re-set, the process can take a bit longer.

Typical pressure washing companies can be great at what they do…cleaning. However, pavers are a unique surface, in that they have an interlocking characteristic which other surfaces lack. These other surfaces include concrete, natural stone, and asphalt. Much of the structural integrity of a segmental paver system come from the sharp angled joint sand which is compacted in between the joints upon installation. Using a standard pressure washing process can remove much of this sand and leave a freshly cleaned paver system void of this joint sand, causing long term issues including weed growth and seed germination. This is one reason that it is important for homeowners who are contemplating having their paver surfaces cleaned, to strongly consider using a paver professional to clean and seal their project.
In addition, it is often the case that, minor repairs will need to be made to areas of the system in conjunction with the cleaning process. And who better to perform these repairs than a reputable, and ICPI certified paver installation professional like Landmark? Typical pressure washing professionals lack the expertise to adequately perform these repairs.
Another important item to consider is that the actual process of re-sanding and sealing pavers is actually quite technical. In differs substantially from the process of sealing concrete or natural stone. In-fact, much of the aesthetic characteristics of your paver installation comes from the final sanding and sealing process. Why not use Landmark Pavers Clean and Seal to renovate your paver project? You will be thrilled with the result. And your pavers will thank you!
Two simple tests can be performed to determine if pavers need to be resealed. First, using a screw driver, exert pressure on the sand joints between the stones. If the sand can be easily removed or crumbles away with little or no effort the project should be resealed. The second test is to saturate the surface with water. If water is not beading on the surface you might need a fresh coat of sealer.
